This is the beginning of your new life, just as it is for Bella Swan. Everyone who comes to this small, dreary town has to see the same sign, and realize how small 3,120 really is compared to the countless number of trees in the forest that engulfs the Olympic Peninsula. But what happens in Forks isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, nope. It’s just like everywhere else in the world; it has drama, mystery, cliques, rivalries, and hardships.

Weather was a funny thing, unpredictable and unique to the region. A state of atmosphere, was a simple definition of the word. But today the weather wasn’t behaving, it wasn’t, lovely, as some would say. Overhead deep, dangerous gray clouds hovered, threatening to break at any second. Threatening to pour down on the forest beneath , with no doubt in her mind the young looking vampire knew it was going to be a thunderstorm. Thunderstorm’s were beautiful, one of the things she loved the most, most would head inside, well humans would anyway, but her? No, she loved the sound of rain slapping the ground and the thunder crackling through the sky. Overhead ducks flew away from the storm, their V shape pattern jagged and deformed. Sammie couldn’t help but wonder why some thought rain was horrible, running from it’s beauty. But of course if you got too much rain you could end up with a flood, and no one wanted that.
Rain splattered against the smooth cold pavement, small streams forming and running down the road. It’s going to be dangerous to drive she thought as she watched a truck zoom by, tires spinning wildly on the slippery surface. She shook her head, foolish humans always pushing themselves to the limit. But someday she watched the truck continue down the road as she stood, concealed by a thick tree, It’ll catch up with them. She shook her head, a small smirk on her face. Looking up her deep golden brown eyes scanned up and down the two lane road, no one. She stepped out from behind the tree and crossed the road quickly, without effort. She wasn’t carrying anything, she didn’t need anything for a simple walk in the forest during a thunderstorm. Why would she risk her book getting soaked? Or one of her few other items.
The forest was a nice place people, and vampires alike, could go to think, or just to get away from it all. Her old worn blue jeans brushed against the brush as she walked, making a small almost silent noise. Her old, black, zip up sweater dripped with water, why did clothes have to suck up every drop of water that hit them? Well ok not every drop, but you might as well ring out the sweater and fill a pond. With a pale hand Sam reached up and tightened her pony tail, water dripped from the end of each hair on her head. She turned her eye to the sky, blinking into the rain, she loved it but why did it have to be so, wet? She smiled at the thought, turning her gaze once again to the path ahead of her. Truthfully there wasn’t a path, she was breaking her own.
Sam hadn’t had a true friend since her human life, since she was changed she had always stayed away from others. Hundred years it’s been. She paused next to a fairly large rock, it’s smooth surface wet with rain. She dropped her gaze and moved over to it, sitting atop the rock and listening to the forest. At least the sun wasn’t out today, that was the good thing about storms. She folded her hands and laid back on the rock, eyes staring up into the branches of a large tree. A friend would be nice, something to pull her from her silent abyss. She closed her eyes, turning over the sentence in her mind, indeed a friend would be nice, but would she be able to handle it? Lifting her arms she placed the back of her hand over her forehead, it probably looked strange but you develop simple habits when trying to fit in with humans. Over head the thunderstorm rolled, thunder echoing across the sky.
Randomness of the moment 'OMG! your mom cut down your tree!' -gasps, runs over onto tree stumps with friend- -holds arms out- -both start chanting- 'photosynthesis!' -dog walks up and starts growling and barking- -points at dog- 'PHOTOSYNTHESIS!' -dog freezes- 'haha, he froze'

It was a dark evening, well, sort of. Without the light from any city, the storm clouds darkened the forest amazingly. Leaves were wet with evening dew, and the grass was mussed from a day's walking on. The woods seemed empty, really. noting stirred, there were no bushes rustling, and no ... Wait. There, not far off, a lily bush was wavering, swaying in a non-existent breeze. There seemed to be nothing there, but look closer. Maybe that animal is sneakier than you'd think.
Annie huffed. A twig has snapped in her face, whipping her nose. Rubbing it tenderly, she blinked up at the little branch, clearly mystified. Ducking lower, she cleared the small bush, though when she stood on the other side, she stood straight, kicking a leaf off of her leg. It was a good thing she wore something that was not so nice tonight, merely blue jeans and a white tank top. Although, the white might not have been the best idea. Suddenly Annie looked up. She heard soft crackling, coming from not far off. Just ahead of that willow tree, she guessed.
And so, she frolicked over to the tree, peering around it. She saw a girl, a pretty one with hair that cascaded to her shoulders, or just past. Annie blinked, wondering if she should show herself. But the girl seemed to freeze for a split second; she knew someone was out there, or it seemed to be as much. Straightening herself out, she pranced out from behind the tree, looking as if she were a woodland nymph. She bore long blond hair, and a pixie-like build, short and petite. But, let's not be silly, there are no such things as nymphs. "Hello." She greeted the girl kindly. This girl was a vampire, just as she was herself.

Sammie’s eyes flicked open as another loud crack of the thunder shook the forest. She stared in silent wonder as a lightning bolt crossed the sky. Apparently this is going to be a large thunderstorm she thought as she lay on the rock. Her dark brown, almost black looking hair was plastered to the rock, the water acting like a weak glue. She loved the forest, and the thunderstorms, but one thing she didn’t like was when there wasn’t any rain and a fire was started. When it came to fire she was numb with nerves. She swallowed nervously, yet again another trait she picked up from being around humans, one she wish she hadn’t. Removing her hands from her forehead she tugged slightly at her sweater, yet another thing she didn’t need but wore because of her pale skin. And on sunny days she hid in the shade, if she had to go out she wore a sweater and baseball hat, but that wasn’t needed today.
She sighed, and pulled herself into a sitting position, wrapping her arms around her knees she pulled them close to her chest. If only there was someone in the forest she could talk to, ah who was she kidding? No one would be out in the middle of a forest while it was raining, or was there? She could hear the two lane road in the distance, tires sloshing along the slick paved road. Even a little closer there was a heard of deep grazing in a small sheltered area, a squirrel hiding in the branches. There was even an owl hiding in the tree near them, and a mile or so away it sounded like a couple of humans camping, grumbling about the rain. The list went on and on, but the one sound that caught her attention was the sound of someone walking, or prancing maybe. They were close too, so she looked up towards the sound.
At first she caught nothing with her heightened vampire vision, but then she did see something, a little flicker of movement. Maybe. She sat completely still, not breathing, after all she didn’t need to. Her hair lay in a straight line down her back, still wet but slightly messed up from her laying down. She still sat, unmoving on the rock until the ‘new arrival’ showed herself. She looked young, and it wasn’t human. She smiled a lovely smile as she realized this person was like her, a vampire in a human world. She was beautiful, then again what vampire wasn’t. ”Hi”’. She paused, then continued ”I’m Sammie, nice to meet you”.

Annie eyed the girl. She was stunning, but in a perfectly simple away. Nothing flashy. She liked that. "I'm Annie. Annie Lace." She replied formally, sitting down and curling her right leg slightly over her left. Some habits from her human days never left. Clasping her hands in her lap, she sat straight, tall. One could say she almost looked regal, if not for the casual outfit she bore. "Nice to meet you too." She smiled sweetly, her tone formal still, though her eyes danced. She had not met another vampire in a long time. It was nice, to know you were not alone out in the world, as much as you thought you were.
Annie's mind flew back to when she was in Philadelphia. She had nowhere to run then, no one to turn to. Her father thought she was dead, as did her mother she would guess. The slaves believed the haughty one's story, and they all had been under the same impression. She could never go back home. And so now, her new status in check, she moved yet again. She decided to run for a bit, sometimes taking a bus or a taxi. She had heard stories about Forks along the way, and how strange people lived there. It was worth a try, and now she can look back and see it was the best choice she ever made.
"How are you Sammie?" Annie asked politely, feeling as if she were sitting down with her father for tea. She never slouched, it was against the rules. And she had to be polite, though she was never supposed to speak first. That rule was soon lost after she was bitten. She never liked it anyway. As for the rest, well a habit was a habit. She kept most of them, finding it hard to stick with who she truly was in an ever changing world. Anastasia Ray Lace. She was well known and wealthy as a human. Now she lived in a cottage, going by her nickname Annie. Yes, ever changing all right.

Sammie wasn’t exceptionally beautiful, not picture perfect like a painting. Or a dream for that matter. But she was prettier than the average person, attracting unwanted attention from the humans. But yet again that was a problem pretty much every single vampire had to endure. They also had problems wandering out into the day, when the sun was shining, a serious downfall for some who used to love to lay in the sun. But that wasn’t a problem for Sammie, she always liked the rainy days, she loved the sound of the rain hitting the ground, and after it rained everything was always greener, and therefore prettier. But that wasn’t really all that was on her mind now a day, her old human family was too. But of course they would be long gone by now, probably died from the sadness the ‘death’ of their only child caused them.
Sammie watched Annie as she went over and sat down. Did Annie have any other vampire friends? Or was Sam the most recent one she had seen? Annie Lace, nice name she thought as she listened to the older vampire. How old was she now? No, she wasn’t going to ask, you weren’t supposed to ask how old a lady was, it was simply impolite. But she was remembering back to when she was younger, nineteen to be exact, the night she was bitten. She hadn’t come home, her parents would have been freaked, but she never would come home. Over the next couple of year she watched from a distance, hurting inside whenever she saw one of them cry. So finally she had to leave, so she did. She moved from beautiful Monteray Bay over to lonely little Forks. Huge change, one she regretted, but one she would have to live with, either that or die from watching her parents pass on.
She shook herself from her memories and refocused her gaze on Annie. Had she said anything? Hopefully not because she wouldn’t have heard her. How are you Sammie? She thought for a moment How am I? She didn’t really know, lonely and sad would cover it. ”Ok I suppose, it’s been years since I have ever sat down and talked to anyone”. Was she making it too clear she didn’t really have any friends? She hoped not, cause she didn’t know who considered her a friend. Her mind began to wander but she pulled it back, she needed to be the other half of this conversation. ”So Annie? How are you?”

Annie let her empathy go, letting it leak all over she did, and frowned inwardly. The immediate feel of curiosity filled her, and she smiled at Sammie. She could already guess the question, she wondered herself about Sammie. And she found that she was much more relaxed about the idea that she would have been as a human. "I am 408 years old. Stuck at 16." She replied smoothly, her eyes gleaming with amusement. At Sammie's next comment, Annie could really sympathize. "I know the feeling. I haven't talked to a real vampire in ages, it must've been about 10 years ago. I mainly talk to humans, trying to fit in with them. But, my priorities and my habits seem to stretch farther than theirs, and they find me odd, in a way." Annie replied, her hands fluttering over her lap now, moving as she talked. This was also a habit she'd picked up through the years. "Good, really. I've made some human friends, talked to them. But my empathy is leaking over everything, and I cannot help but notice all the details I don't want to notice." She complained mildly, a smile still etched on her face.
"But its not as if I can help it yet. Even after all these years sometimes a feeling pulls the empathy out of me. I once failed a test because the girl next to me was inwardly weeping over something terrible." She explained, talking way too much. Maybe it had been awhile since she had really talked to someone. Someone who would understand that is. A vampire, a rare breed of person. Not alive nor dead, just there, in the midst of space watching time fly by as they live forever. However long that was. "I am truly sorry for my rambling, it has been awhile since I could talk to someone who would understand." She apologized lightly, entwining her hands once more in her lap.

Age, oh so cursed age. Year by year we grow older, collect hideous wrinkles and so on. The laugh lines we could deal with, it proved we had a heck of a time during our years. But once you become immortal, age took on a completely different face. Your could be thousands of old and not look any different, except maybe for a few scars from fights you were in, but nothing really changed. Personalities did though. Somebody’s set of characteristics, or characteristics that make someone appealing. So put simply it was who you are, and even personality could change the way you looked. If you were depressed by something around you, it completely affected the way you acted and it even changed your appearance. But why do people even bring these things up? It’s life, and we all have to deal with it.
Sammie looked away towards the highway, a slow moving truck, no semi-truck, was making it’s way along the road, unusually slow for this time of day. She pushed it from her mind and leaned back on the rock, letting her feet slide down the smooth stone until they just hung there. She pulled her attention from the noise of the highway and looked to Annie again. Four hundred and eight years old, stuck at sixteen? She nodded, Must have seen a load of things in her lifetime She shifted slightly, then spoke ”I’m hundred nineteen stuck at nineteen” Flashing a small half smile she watched as Annie moved her hands as she talked, something she probably used to fit in with the humans around the world. The world, how many places has this vampire been? But she nodded ”I mainly stay quiet, hardly talkin to anyone, but I’ve opened up a bit more in the past fifty years” she smiled at the sentence. Fifty years, hard to think it had been a hundred already, let alone fifty.
Ah friends, hard to come by real nice one now a day, they either were your best friend, or stole your boyfriend. It’s as if they only had two cards to pick from and had only a little while to chose. Sam frowned, gah tests, dumb tests. ”That sucks, heh. Even after all the years you still can never get past those eh? I mean like, get out of them.” She shook her head slowly ”School.” Ah the cursed thing, have to hate it, have to love it, have to go to it. Sammie pulled herself back up farter on the rock, turning her gaze yet again from the forest to Annie. ”Naw it’s alright. I haven’t really talked a lot in awhile.”. She smiled a kind smile before smoothing her sweater, as much as she could with the water in it. ”So where you originally from?”
